Understanding the Chart Header

  • Updated

The chart header is laid out in a way that we think helps you look at securities similar to how we do.

We use this information in the chart header to answer the following questions:

  1. Is this a strong security?
  2. Is this security in a strong area of the market?
  3. Is it currently a good time to act on this security?

Is this a strong security?

The technical attribute or fund score section on the left of the header helps us answer this question. We use important technical characteristics from the security's chart to assign it a technical score that we can use to easily determine whether that security is worth owning or not.

Is this security in a strong area of the market?

The sector info section in the stock chart header and score comparison section in the fund chart header each help you determine two things:

  1. Whether this security is in a strong segment of the market or if you might be better or searching for securities in another segment of the market.
  2. Whether this security compares favorably with similar securities in the same market segment or if there are more established leaders that might be more worthy of inclusion in your portfolio.

Is it currently a good time to act on this security?

The secondary indicators section shows several shorter-term mean reversion measures that are designed to help you determine if this security is currently overbought or oversold on its chart. This information can help you formulate a plan for when to buy/sell the security.

For example, suppose you have decided you want to buy a stock based on it's score and the strength of its sector, but the secondary indicators show that the stock is currently quite overbought. You might expect the stock's price to pull back in the short term to a more favorable purchase price and therefore decide to wait until some of the secondary indicators reverse from their overbought position.
