Creating an FSM Model from an Existing Universe

You can use the ‘Send to…’ feature from a Portfolio, Security Screener results, Matrix, or an existing Model Universe to create an FSM model from that universe. You can also add additional tickers if you want to supplement the universe from there.

Although you will have more opportunities before saving the model, it is a good idea to assign your model a name and ticker early on so you can easily identify it among your draft models.

On the Universe tab, click "Add Assets" to begin building your universe.

The dropdown bar on the universe creation pop-up gives you the following options to help create your model universe:

  • Symbol Search- Look up individual tickers by name or symbol
  • Import a Team- Use a universe you have saved in Team Builder or select individual tickers from a saved Team
  • Portfolios- Use a universe you have saved as a Portfolio or select individual tickers from a Portfolio
  • Mutual Fund Families/ETF Providers- Select from the funds of a specific asset manager
  • DWA Guided Models- Include DWA Models as members of your universe
  • DWA Guided Models Universe- Use the underlying securities within a DWA Model as your universe
  • Fund Group Ideas- Select funds from lists of investment categories such as US Large Cap Equity, High Yield Bond Funds, or Socially Responsible funds
  • Favorites- Designate tickers as Favorites to make them easier to find if you plan to use them in future models

Once you have selected a list, all members of that list will appear below. Click ‘Select All’ if you would like to include that entire list in your model universe or check the box next to individual tickers you would like to include.

Click the star icon next to a ticker to designate it a favorite and find it under your favorites list when building future models. Once you have all the tickers you would like to include in your universe, click ‘Add Tickers’ to add them to your model.
